Paper Girls Creators Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang Reunite for Roam
Writer Brian K. Vaughan and artist Cliff Chiang are reuniting for Roam, a new ongoing series from Image Comics scheduled to launch in February 2027.
The creative team previously worked together on the Eisner Award-winning Paper Girls. Their new project marks their first new ongoing series together in more than a decade, bringing back a partnership known for its distinctive storytelling and visual approach.
A Story About Finding Your Place
Image Comics describes Roam as an adventure about the challenges and possibilities of entering adulthood, particularly the search for people who understand and support you.
The publisher has not revealed the full story, leaving readers with limited details about the setting and characters. That mystery is part of what makes the launch notable: rather than returning to an existing franchise, Vaughan and Chiang are building a new world.
Chiang has already drawn the first several issues. Matt Wilson is handling colours, while Jared Fletcher is responsible for lettering.
Why the Reunion Matters
Paper Girls established a strong creative identity through its mix of science fiction, friendship and coming-of-age storytelling. Vaughan and Chiang’s reunion gives Roam a built-in audience of readers familiar with their earlier collaboration.
At the same time, the new series will need to establish its own characters and premise rather than rely solely on nostalgia. As an ongoing creator-owned comic, its long-term prospects will depend on how the story develops and whether readers respond to the new world.
Release Date
The extra-length first issue of Roam will run 50 pages and is scheduled for release at comic book shops on February 24, 2027. Image Comics has announced two covers for the debut issue, both by Chiang.
For readers interested in original, creator-owned comics, Roam is one of Image’s upcoming launches to watch in early 2027.
